Padman : Akshay Kumar's new venture

Akshay Kumar aka Rajeev Hari Om Bhatia, popularly called ‘Khiladi’ ‘Khiladi Kumar’, has given numerous hits ever since in last few years, and now become a heartthrob of Bollywood, is once again in news. Arunachalam Muruganantham, a Padma Shri awardee, is a social entrepreneur from Coimbatore. Arunachalam has invented the low-cost handmade sanitary pads by his pad making machines and has developed the premier mechanism for the awareness about traditional, a bit of unhygienic usage of different materials by the women during menstruation in rural India. His invented machines were so low priced that this manufactured sanitary pad costs him less than one-third of the cost of the commercial sanitary pad. He expanded his work in around 29 states of India and the next planning is to expand the production of these machines to 106 nations. 

Some interesting facts of Muruganantham’s life:

o  In the beginning, he experimented on his wife and sisters that his invented sanitary pads were effective or not but later they refused to do so after a few trials.

o  Then Muruganantham approached female medical college students for the same but they also refused.

o  Then he decided to use this sanitary pad by himself. He wore his sanitary pad in his underwear and along with the bottle filled with animal blood, which would squeeze out the blood onto the pad.

o  People started calling him a ‘pervert’ and so his wife decided to divorce him.

o  After 2 years of intense research, he formulated to produce the material he required and the production process for a good quality sanitary pad.

o  The Time Magazine also recognized his efforts and featured him as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world in 2014.
